Amazing on-site restaurant (Browns) with GF options clearly marked — they even made a GF packed lunch for the Ben Nevis hike. Short walk outside of town, but close enough to the trailhead to walk. Beautiful mountain views.

Getting Around

Walking
Fort William's High Street and waterfront are easily walkable. Town centre is compact — everything you need within 10 minutes on foot. Walkability is high in town.

ScotRail Train
The West Highland Line connects Fort William to Glasgow (3.5 hrs) — one of the most scenic train rides in the world. Also connects to Mallaig for ferries.

Car
Essential for reaching Glenfinnan, Glen Nevis, and the surrounding Highlands. Parking in town is straightforward. The A82 along Loch Lomond is stunning.

Getting to Skye
Take the train from Fort William to Mallaig (1.5 hrs), then the CalMac ferry to Armadale on Skye. A beautiful journey through some of Scotland's wildest coastline.

The UK's highest peak at 1,345m. The Mountain Track (Pony Track) from Glen Nevis Visitor Centre is the most popular route — plan 7–9 hours round trip. Weather changes fast, even in summer.

Glenfinnan Viaduct

Iconic

The famous 21-arch railway viaduct from the Harry Potter films. Best viewed from the Glenfinnan Viaduct Viewpoint trail (10 min walk from car park). The Jacobite crosses around 10:45am and 3pm.

Nature

The starting point for the Mountain Track. Has a café, toilets, and parking (£4/day). Pick up a trail map and check conditions before heading up. Beautiful Glen Nevis surroundings.

The famous "Harry Potter train" runs from Fort William to Mallaig over the Glenfinnan Viaduct. 84-mile round trip through some of Scotland's most dramatic scenery. Books up months in advance.
