Gluten-Free Survival Guide

Difficult
The Reality
There were a lot of hotels and restaurants closed during the time of year I went (right before ski season opened), so it was actually really tough to find GF meals. Some of the places that were open seemed to close early too. I ended up eating makeshift meals from the grocery store a couple times, but Zermatt was still one of my absolute favorite cities I’ve ever been to.

Grocery Options

  • Dropa Drogerie for specialty GF products
  • Stock up in Visp or Täsch before arriving — much better selection

Verdict
Zermatt is a challenging destination for celiacs, especially in shoulder season when many restaurants close. Bring GF snack bars, stock up on groceries before arriving, and plan meals around the few restaurants with dedicated GF options. Grampi’s is your safest bet.
