The Salzburg Card is excellent value — it covers the fortress funicular (€14 alone), Untersberg cable car (€17 alone), plus all buses. Two attractions and it pays for itself.

Lively & Local
Right bank across the Salzach. Mirabell Palace and Gardens, Mozart Residence, trendy restaurants and concept stores. More lived-in than the left bank.

Mönchsberg

Panoramic & Quiet
Forested ridge along the west side. Museum der Moderne with terrace views, Mönchsberg elevator, and panoramic walking paths. A quiet escape minutes from the bustle.

Kapuzinerberg

Hidden Viewpoint
Hill on the right bank with Hettwer Bastei — one of the best panoramic views of fortress, Old Town, and Alps. Reached via Imbergstiege staircase. Mostly locals.

Nonntal

Historic & Residential
South of the Altstadt at the base of Festungsberg. Nonnberg Abbey (oldest nunnery in the German-speaking world, featured in Sound of Music). Medieval residences.

Mülln

Beer & Monastery
Northwest of Old Town. The Augustiner Bräustübl (massive beer hall, beer from wooden barrels). Mülln church and monastery above. Path up to Mönchsberg.

Station Area
